I missed work because I ended up in the hospital after attempting to commit suicide.?

Do you think it's best if I tell my boss the truth? or should I make up another excuse? On one hand I could get the sympathy vote and definitely not be fired. On the other, everyone will see me as an unstable nutcase that they don't want to be around. Opinions?
